A conversation with a client six years ago about the sexual exploitation experienced by millions of women and children across the U.S. and Cambodia changed Seattle-based salon owner Matthew Fairfax's life forever. Infused with passion for helping to put an end to the serious threat of human trafficking and turning the victims' lives around, he created the Cambodia-based Justice and Soul Foundation. Now he needs your help to make his ambition a reality. Think you've got what it takes?
Through partnerships with established non-govermental organizations (NGOs) and the Cambodian government, Matthew is also planning to open a salon alongside the school. This will be established and staffed by trained, English speaking stylists, primarily from the U.S. and other developed countries. The pricing model will be set to attract wealthy Cambodian women and expatriates, tourists and NGO workers, and profits from the salon will go toward supporting the school. Ultimately, the students will move into stylist roles and ideally become the instructors. The foundation also plans to initiate partnerships with local cosmetology programs and schools to provide ongoing opportunities for aspiring stylists to gain entry into the beauty industry. Matthew and his team will also partner with local shelters and rescue programs to provide support and inspiration for the young women in transition.
