NYFW is the source for all things style, fashion and beauty. This bi-annual event showcases the best of the best clothing, hairstyles and accessories from all over the world for the spring/summer and fall/winter seasons every year. In 2015, I was lucky enough to travel to the big apple with a fellow editor to go backstage at some of the biggest shows, talk with the models, interview the stylists and get the scoop on all things (super) high-end hairstyling.
During our week there, we went backstage at more than 30 different shows and events, talked with countless stylists and took feverish notes to capture every second of the action. Here, my fellow editor and I compiled all of our interviews, tips, tricks, and note-worthy photos to put together a NYFW hair "highlight reel." Everything a stylist wanted to know about NYFW, all in one place!

Sumo wrestlers and models...an unexpected pairing. But when inspiration from the ancient art of Japanese sumo wrestling struck lead stylist Orlando Pita at the Carolina Herrera show, he fused the two, creating a high-fashion and feminine take on sumo style. Also fascinated with knots were lead stylists Frank Rizzieri and James Pecis, both of whom created sculptural, graphic twists for their models.

Stylists Share Their Favorite OMG! FW Moments (excerpt)
Although you can’t tell from the looks on the runway, it’s not always smooth sailing backstage. Many stylists experience major hiccups during Fashion Week--here are some truly, OMG FW moments.
“I was doing a Joseph Altuzarra show in New York, and the girls were coming from Alexander Wang. Sixteen girls came in 20 minutes before the show with gel in their hair, and there were no washing facilities. So we had to wash the hair with bottles of Evian water over dust bins. I’d say it was pretty mental.” - Paul Hanlon
“The night before a menswear show, one of the male model’s roommates played a prank and shaved his head in the front. He showed up with a big bald spot, and we were like, ‘What are you, 12?!’ We had to put in a bunch of extensions, but it blended perfectly and no one ever knew.” - David Cruz
